Which gig would you have liked to have seen?

I came across this article on RTE’s website today and it got me thinking was there any gigs I had wish I had seen.

According to this article Live Aid is one of the gigs that most British fans would like to have seen live.

I must admit Live Aid doesn’t quite top the list for me. It was a spectacular watching it live on tv. Couldn’t really say that is your first gig as you weren’t there but I guess watching it on tv was just as good as being there.

However I started to think about the gigs that I never went to and most of them would have been due to my age and whether or not I would have been allowed to go by my parents.

First couple are from my teenage years. I think I was only 14 when Bruce Springsteen played Slane. Born In The USA was getting played to death on my record player and The Boss comes to Ireland. I was definitely too young for this one.

The only other one from my teenage years was U2 playing the Kings Hall as part of The Joshua Tree tour in 1987.

I missed out on tickets as the new album came out in time for my 16th birthday and I went into town and bought it but I didn’t even know tickets for the gig had went on sale. Do’h! I definitely missed that one.

U2 also did a midnight signing at Makin’ Tracks but this was at the height of the troubles and there was no way my mum was letting me go into town for that!

The other gigs that I missed – Oasis at the Limelight which I wrote about on an earlier blog and probably bands too numerous to mention that I did not go to see because I wouldn’t go on my own. Times definitely have changed now!

Another huge regret was not seeing Pearl Jam for the first time. They supported Neil Young at Slane and I was out of the country at the time. Raging that I missed it.

Finally the other gigs that I never went to at the start were festivals. I loved watching highlights of the Reading Festival and that was one festival I wish I went to during the early 90s.

Closer to home I never went to any of the Trip to Tipp festivals. Lots of bands I loved played there and I still can’t figure why I never went.

So what gigs would you liked to have seen and why?
